3K Curriculum

The 3K curriculum strives to teach your child social and personal development skills, including cooperation and manners in small groups; visual motor skills, including tracing and hand-eye coordination; language and reading skills, including reciting the Alphabet and recognizing sight words; number and conceptual development, including counting numbers (1-10) and grouping objects; and listening and sequencing skills, including paying attention and following simple oral directions.

The 3K curriculum also includes daily religion instruction, weekly world language introduction to Spanish, as well as integrated technology, including an iPad lab and interactive whiteboards. The 3K also participates in the Fine Arts program through art and music class each week.

The 3K curriculum uses “Handwriting without Tears”, “Reading Street” by Scott Foresman, and TLC lessons as resources for the 3K curriculum.

4K Curriculum

“Learning is Fun” is emphasized in our 4K Program. The students learn by doing within a Christian environment. The 4K program encourages students to communicate with their peers; to accept the role of both follower and leader; to work and play with others in a group; to respect others and their belongings; to work without help; to share and use materials; and to be kind, cooperative, and courteous. The 4K program also encourages students to express their ideas through speech, as well as creativity, to listen and follow directions, to face and overcome problems, and to enjoy art, computer, library, and music.

The students develop control of emotional expression and physical movements as they manipulate small objects and materials. Their imagination and curiosity are guided into learning experiences.

The 4K curriculum uses “Handwriting without Tears”, “Reading Street” by Scott Foresman, and TLC lessons as resources for the 4K curriculum. “Christ Our Life” by Loyola Press is the curriculum material for religion and students learn the basic prayers.

Most importantly, St. Joseph endeavors to help each student recognize his/her individual gifts and understand that each one is different, with special needs, interests, and characteristics. It is our mission to work together to help your child reach their goals and to understand that God loves him/her as an individual and unique gift.
