One goal of each teacher at St. Joseph is to hand on the faith to each class both spiritually and scholastically. All teachers have been trained in the following areas: differentiated learning, developing Understanding by Design units, and on the technology that is used in their rooms. There are also several members on staff who have been trained in different instructional methods such as Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative. There are other proven methods that are being used that are research based. Phonics, Star Testing, and the Accelerated Reading program are all being integrated into daily lessons.
Each classroom is equipped with Smart Board technology to allow hands on learning. There are also document cameras, and wireless slates that are used. Each classroom also has been equipped with the 2Know handheld devices. These can be used to practice math facts, review material, take tests, or as simply a way for the teacher to keep students actively involved in the lesson.
